What makes it a harsh reality is that whether or not both parties want to go back to that place, the friendship is forever <strong style="border: 0px; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">changed</strong>. One or both of you saw a side of that other person that you didn’t know existed… Or better yet, never existed <em style="border: 0px; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">towards you</em>.</span></div>

I’ve always prided myself on being a good friend and doing what I think is right toward all people. Unfortunately there have been a few times that I can look back on and wish I had made better decisions based on the needs/expectations of my friends and what the situations called for. While hindsight is always 20/20 and everything is clear now, at this point you need to accept that things won’t be as they once were, and adapt to the way they are now and will be.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">The other end of this that I have been on is where you have been hurt by a friend, and whether you want it to <em style="border: 0px; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">go back to how it was </em>or not, it’s simply not an option you can let yourself get to. I have wanted to go back to normal with a friend a few times now, but there are limits to what we can consciously allow ourselves to do. Call it what you want, but when someone burns you, or doesn’t think enough about you before hurting you, sometimes our hearts just won’t allow us to go back— which is <strong style="border: 0px; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">okay</strong>. It’s the harsh reality.</span></div>

Well, it’s not. It all comes back to the golden rule and a little extra thinking. You<strong style="border: 0px; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"> treat people</strong> the <strong style="border: 0px; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">exact</strong> way you want them to treat you, and beyond that, think about how the other person feels and how they will react if you hurt them. We can’t be perfect, but it is possible to be pure and genuine in thought.</span></div>

Speak less (use the 60/40 Rule = listen 60% of the time and speak a mere 40%, if that). This will not only make you more popular but you will learn much wisdom as everyone we meet, every day has something to teach us. Also restrain the urge to gossip or to condemn someone who you feel has made a mistake. Stop complaining and develop a cheerful, vital and strong personality. You will greatly influence others. d) When a negative thought comes to your mind, immediately replace it with one that is positive. Positive always dominates over the negative and your mind has to be conditioned to think only the best thoughts. Negative thinking is a conditioned process whereby the negative patterns are established over and over. Rid yourself of any limitations and become a powerful positive thinker.</span></div>

important meal of the day, yet so many people skip it. Personally, I
like to eat a couple of toasts in the morning along with a fruit

<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Sleep 8 hours.</strong> Sleep deprivation is never a good
idea. You may think that you are gaining time by sleeping less, when in
reality you are only gaining stress and tiredness. 8 hours are a good
number of hours for most people, along with an optional 20 minutes nap
after lunch.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Avoid snacking between meals.</strong> Snacking between meals is the best way to gain weight. If you are hungry, eat something concrete. Otherwise don’t. <strong>Update:</strong> for clarification, I mean don’t eat junk food between meals, but eating real food it’s ok.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Eat five portions of fruits and vegetables every day.</strong>
Our body and brain loves getting vegetables and fruit, so I highly
recommend eating as much of them as possible. Five portions is the dose
that’s usually recommended by many health associations.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Eat fish.</strong> Fish is rich of omega 3 and other healthy
elements. At least one meal per week of fish should be enough for
getting all these nutrients.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Drink one glass of water when you wake up.</strong> When you
wake up, your body is dehydrated and needs liquid. Make the habit of
drinking one glass of water after you wake up in the morning. Also,
drink more during the day.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Avoid soda.</strong> Soda is often one of the most unhealthy
beverage you can find. Limit your consumption of soda as much as
possible and you’re body will be grateful for that.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Keep your body clean.</strong> I don’t advise spending your day in front of the mirror, but a minimum of personal care does never hurt.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>If you smoke, stop it.</strong> There’s no reason to smoke anymore, and quitting is possible.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>If you drink, stop it.</strong> Same as above. Don’t think
that alcohol will solve your problems. It never does. The only exception
is one glass of wine per day during meals.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Take the stairs.</strong> This is just a hack that forces you to do a minimum of exercise. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs.</span></li>

where do you start? One way is to prioritize your list. If you are in
doubt, ask yourself: “If I could only accomplish one thing today, what

you should decide in advance what you are going to do today or this
week. However, planning for more than a few weeks is usually
inefficient, so I would not worry too much about that.</span></li>

great way to gain extra time. I personally like to wake up at 5 am, so
that by 9 am I have already accomplished what otherwise would have taken

easily become an addiction, but it’s usually unnecessary to check it
every 10 minutes. Make an effort and check your email only once or twice
per day, see if the world will still rotate as before after you try
this.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Eliminate unimportant tasks.</strong> Being busy all day
does not mean you are doing important stuff. Eliminate every activity
that’s not important, and focus on what really matters.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Clean off your desk and room.</strong> Having a clear room and desk is important to maintain focus and creativity.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Automate.</strong> There are a lot of tasks that you need to perform every day or every week. Try to automate them as much as possible.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><strong>Set strict deadlines.</strong> When you do something, decide
in advance when you’re going to stop. There’s a rule that states that
you will fulfill all the time you have available for completing a task,

Lately I've been thinking a lot about love, forever love and the feeling of being in love. Does it really exist and if it does, does it last forever? I know love does exist in different forms, like love for your parents, your siblings, your spouse but there is one form of love that we always take for granted. It's the love for ourselves.<br />
<br />
This is one form of love that has the potential to last forever. You don't need anyone else to help sustain this relation. What do you do to nurture it and make it grow? Well, there are a number of things that you can do.. Not sure how many of them you're actually doing. So here I start making a list (again!) of all the things I came up with that I do (or I would do) to express my love to myself....<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Do what you love doing- I don't mean all the time, 24 hours a day. Let's be practical here. We're all working and we all hate our jobs sometimes (a lot of times?). I would not recommend you to go put your papers just because you are suffering from Monday blues (or PMSing) to prove your love for yourself.</li>
<li>Do what you want to do- Right or wrong, good or bad, who cares? As long as it keeps me happy today, I'd rather not worry about what it would do to me tomorrow. Like someone? Go tell him/her. Atleast you won't spend the rest of your life plucking petals off every flower you find thinking "He loves me, he loves me not!"... Want a pizza? Just order it without thinking about the calories. No one wants your ghost haunting pizza hut after you die... Yes my mom would never approve of this, but I know for a fact that she does not read my blog so I'm pretty safe here :-D</li>
<li>Gift yourself- Don't we all buy birthday gifts, valentines day gifts, anniversary gifts for others? Ever bought yourself a birthday gift? No, because all your money goes in treating others. I have decided I'm going to gift myself (Yes, spend my money, not go and ask dad for it) this year onwards. Infact I've already added two items on my list (one year spa membership and an iPod dock) so all I need to do is make sure I stop here to avoid some post bday depression which will come from bankruptcy (which contradicts my statement above of not worrying about tomorrow. But I guess planning about tomorrow and worrying about the day after is fine here).</li>
<li>Buy yourself flowers- How many times do we look at a bouquet of flowers on someone else's desk and think, "Oh how I wish someone bought it for me too".. Why not do it yourself? After all you know which flowers you love the most or which flowers you're craving for at that time...</li>
<li>Cook for yourself sometimes- I don't want to make it a chore which is why I said sometimes. But seriously, don't we all say we don't have the time to cook because we are just too busy? How many times have we cribbed about the cafeteria food or cribbed about the fact that we're not staying with mom? We'll take time to make an elaborate meal to show our love for others but why not show yourself some love by feeding yourself what you really like?</li>
<li>Workout- Yes, a lot of people will argue about this one, but trust me this is one good thing you'll be doing to yourself. I know it's very difficult getting up in the morning and going to the gym. Infact I decided to bunk my gym today just when I was going to step out of the house (I'm actually sitting in my gym clothes while writing this post) but still, nothing can beat the joy of getting a good toned body or even just running on the treadmill and feeling all the stress just flow away..</li>
<li>Spend time doing what you like-You can do anything here.. Read a good book, listen to some good music, join a dance class or just watch a corny chick flick.. Whatever makes you happy.. I've started spending my weekends doing all of these :)</li>

You don't even have to read this post to find out how to express love for yourself.. Somewhere deep down, we all know what we want for ourselves. It's just that we lose ourselves in our pursuit of keeping others happy. But can the people around us be happy if we are not happy? We've all read that charity begins at home.. So let us start working towards our underprivileged selves and then worry about the others. It's very necessary to be selfish at times. :) </div>

Although there is too much literature around these two topics, I believe that both are governed by simple equations.<br /><br />Success is strongly related with the number of hours you spend focusing on long term rewards divided by the hours you spend on short term benefits. In short term benefits you can include many things from TV, facebook, emails to smoking, junk food, drugs etc. All those things give you instant gratification, but in the long term have a negative impact. In long term rewards you can include exercise, educating yourself, building your network, putting long hours and working on something that has no immediate impact etc. Of course, apart from your own efforts a large part is also luck, which is a constant that you can not take out.<br /><br />Happiness on the other hand, is strongly related with the number of hours you spend focusing on your passions and on hours you spend with people you want to be with (divided by the ones you don't). If you spend most of your time on the things you love to do, amongst people you love to be with then there is a great chance that you will be happy. Money, fame, having a lot of stuff, doing what you supposed to do, reading about other people's happiness, or going through long lists will not help you in the end. Again, there is a constant which is your genetic predesposition towards happiness but it is also a constant that you can do little about. </div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">His bed was next to the room’s only window</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The men talked for hours on end.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats.. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Although the other man could not hear the band – he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Days, weeks and months passed.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.</span><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">She said, ‘Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.’</span><br />

Stay Foolish.<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: justify;">I just came across the transcript of a graduation commencement address that Steve Jobs delivered to the Stanford University class of 2005. Certain parts of this speech strongly coincide with the underlying message in my previous post. Beyond that, it provides some exceptional first hand advice from a man who followed his heart and intuition in pursuit of what he loved in life… and he came out on top. The full commencement address is definitely worth a quick read. Here are a couple excerpts that initially caught my attention:<br />

<blockquote>“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything, all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”<br />

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
